Climbing Plants X 2 Offer- Blue Eyes & Red Pearl - Clematis for Patio Planting with Very long flowering period.
This excellent value offer is for 2 outstanding clematis with compact habit making them ideal for planting in patio containers. The collection is for one each of clematis 'Blue eyes' and clematis 'Red Pearl'
'Blue Eyes' has Sky-blue flowers in profusion. A compact free-flowering cultivar of recent introduction. An excellent variety that grows well with moderate growth to a nice height of 6 to 8 feet (2 m) tall. 'Blue eyes' has large, sky-blue/ lilac flowers and has great profusion over a long period of time - in May-June, and again in August-Sept. Suitable for growing over fences, walls, arbors, pergolas, trellises and poles. It can clamber over natural supports eg small trees or large, bushy deciduous shrubs. A superb clematis for growing in containers on terraces and balconies. Prune lightly each year early spring removing any weak or damaged stems.
'Red Pearl' is an outstanding hardy and easy to grow introduction. 'Red Pearl' was bred by Kozo Sugimoto and has only recently become available outside Japan. It is of compact habit, growing between 1.8-2 metres (5 to 6 Feet) and is ideal for growing in patio containers as it has been bred to flower low on the vine and produce new growth close to the base. Also has the advantage of flowering twice in the same year, first in spring and again in the autumn. As a young vine the first few seasons flowers start wine in colour and you wonder if you have the right plant, but as with all clematis the best colour flowers are obtained as the vine matures and when grown in good quality loam based composts, with stable nutrients - (John Innes no 2/3 compost and a weekly feed of diluted tomorite), and grown well there is very little change in the intensity and flower colour between its early and late crop, except in autumn a light lavender margin is evident close up, but from a distance it is barely seen, serving instead to excentuate the intense red and has deservadly become the challenger for the title of reddest of the red!
Prune hard in early spring (mid Feb) to a pair of strong buds above ground level and after its spring bloom, a light prune (tidy any weak stems) which will energise it for its autumn display.
